Friends,
First of all my special thanks to Nikhil for making this blog in its best way to look. This shows Nikhil's mark on the blog. I welcome every one to start showing your strengths, which makes you special.
I have been thinking about this topic for a while.Indian IT Industry brought US $52 billion for the year 2007-08 as revenue to the country. But our major revenue share comes from service industry. Why our professionals/companies are not able to do R&D and develop products for the whole world?. Every year our engineering colleges are producing lakhs of professioanls ?. But why we are looking for job only? why can't we start some thing on our own?.
I looked at working people for years. They are working..working..for years and joining some MBA and targetting some management roles. But why companies are not able to move towards poduct developments, even companies are sitting on big money. Our experienced professioanals are just continuing the job and trying to woo the customer in US. What needs to do in order to redirect our experienced professioanls towards enterprenuership?. Why our experienced people are not able to forsee the new opoortunity/ anticipating the new needs of the customer. What need to be done to redirect the experienced professioanls towards this?
Look forward to listen from every ones ideas/thoughts on this.
Thank You,
Hanu

I appreciate sir for coming up with such an alarming concern. I think this because we lack product development attitude in India.

Developing the product development mindset involves spotting opportunities, taking risks and investing for the long term. I feel that with the experience we have gained, that will change by choice or force, since the services business is also no more an easy business. I feel that this downturn in the global market will make a few companies emerge in the product arena.

Further, we do not have the startup culture in India, that encourages entrepreneurs. That involves people leaving the comfort zones of a stable job, and venture capitalists (VC) investing in them. I believe that there are no more stable jobs with this downturn. That will force some good people to come out of their shells, venture out with ideas, build some proof of concepts and get VC funding to invest.

All things considered, many in India, including me, believe that the current downturn is a blessing in disguise for India, which will change the mindset, the environment and the willingness to invest - all of which will be necessary to accelerate product development in India.

    Nikhil,
I appreciate your analysis. I want every one to throw some ideas how can we bring the people out of shells?. If you look at President Obama, he is going with agenda of continuation of education for the working and spending lot of money on education system even though US universities are privately funded. US Govt is spending lot of money on education by keeping in mind India and CHina will become big threat to US children in future. 2 yrs back when I come to US, my company CEO was a wallstreet guy and they don't care/consider Indian IT peoples financial expereince. He said that out sourced projects are only maintanence work and the innovative work comes only from US. So I want to get differnt openions and views on this, how can we bring fresh minds to think about Innovation and experienced minds out of their shells.
I do remember the words quoted by Infosys chief mentor Mr NarayaMurthy, during the dotcom boom during year 2000-01. That was the time lot of cream was going out of India and Indian companies were not able to retain cream. So that bad time showed its impact on migration to US and Indian companies was able to get good resources and establish a strong foundation for future. On that base our IT Community grown up and able to create lot of jobs.
I do see NASCOM and lot of prominent leaders talk about it. But what steps they are taking and what are their action plans.
what steps every one think about this to bring our IT Community to bring that level. This applicables to not only IT. every company to bring back to think more than what they are doing today. This should be great opportunity to the hard working people.
